About me
Emrah Gürlek
Emrah Gürlek joined Dr. Zaim Gökbay’s Research Group as a doctoral student in February 2021. He is currently pursuing his PhD at Istanbul University, Institute of Science, Department of Informatics. His thesis, titled “Classification of Neurodegenerative Diseases with Machine Learning Techniques,” focuses on developing AI-based technologies for disease classification using voxel-based methods. This research is supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) 2211-C Scholarship Program.
He completed his master’s degree in Mathematics at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kamile Şanlı Kula. His master’s thesis was titled “An Evaluation of Sleep Quality and Anxiety of Cerebrovascular Patients.”
Prior to this, Gürlek graduated from the integrated BS and MS program in Mathematics Education at Boğaziçi University in February 2012.
His future goals focus on advancing the integration of artificial intelligence and medical imaging to improve early diagnosis, classification, and clinical decision support systems for neurodegenerative diseases. He also aims to contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations bridging computer science, medicine, and neuroscience, while fostering innovative approaches that can translate research outcomes into practical healthcare solutions.
